Calling the Shots – April Fool’s Edition

April 3, 2013

An appropriate title, I think, as after March’s predictions I’m feeling more than a bit foolish. It was all going so well and the 60% target was in my sight when the wheels fell off over the last two cards.  I only got 4 of the 11 right, leaving me on 25 out of 49 (51.02%) with the correct method picked in 16 out of the 25 (64%).

Still, we have a jam packed April in which to get things back on track, with no less than four UFC cards this month.  I’ll cover off the first pair here and look at the others later in the month. First up is the company’s second trip to Sweden for a card that has suffered a last minute change of headliner.

UFC on Fuel TV 9

With Alexander Gustaffson unable to fight due to a last-minute cut, Gergard Mousasi will now take on fellow debutante Ilir Latifi.  Under the circumstances it’s hard to not pick Mousasi, and I think he’ll take this one by (T)KO.  As for the rest of the card, my picks are as follows (with my Sunderland bias showing again, I fear)-

Ross Pearson beats Ryan Couture by (T)KO

Philip De Fries beats Matt Mitrione by Submission

Brad Pickett beats Mike Easton by Decision

Diego Brandao beats Pablo Garza by Submission

UFC – The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale

Not sure which fights are going to be on the main card for this one, so I’ve opted to just call the first four.  The Ultimate Fighter finale fight will likely take the other main card slot.

Uriah Faber beats Scott Jorgensen by Decision

Meisha Tate beats Cat Zingano by Decision

Gabriel Gonzaga beats Travis Browne by Submission

Bart Palaszewski beats Cole Miller by (T)KO

The fight back to 60% starts here…
